Credit cards have evolved considerably in India. A decade ago, many cards offered complicated reward-point systems whose real value was difficult to calculate. In 2026, cashback credit cards have become increasingly attractive because the benefit is easier to understand: spend money on eligible transactions and receive part of that expenditure back.
However, the phrase “5% cashback” or “10% cashback” does not tell the entire story. A card may advertise 10% cashback but cap the benefit at ₹1,200 per month. Another may offer 5% across almost all online merchants but exclude utility payments, insurance, education, rent and wallet loads. A third may have no annual fee but restrict its highest cashback to one e-commerce ecosystem.
Consequently, choosing the best cashback credit card requires examining four variables together: cashback percentage, eligible spending categories, cashback cap and annual fee.
This guide evaluates the top 10 cashback credit cards in India in 2026, based primarily on current issuer disclosures available as of 12 August 2026. Cashback programmes can change, so cardholders should always verify the latest Most Important Terms and Conditions before applying.
Perhaps the most important financial rule should be stated at the beginning: cashback is valuable only when the credit-card bill is paid in full. Carrying forward an unpaid balance can attract interest and eliminate the economic benefit generated by rewards.
Important: Credit-card rewards should never be used as a reason to overspend or carry revolving debt. Pay the total amount due by the due date whenever possible.

1. CASHBACK SBI Card
Best Overall Cashback Credit Card for Online Spending
For most consumers who spend heavily online across many different websites, the CASHBACK SBI Card remains one of the strongest all-purpose cashback cards available in India.
The structure is relatively simple: the card provides 5% cashback on eligible online spending without restricting the benefit to a short list of preferred merchants, while eligible offline transactions earn 1%. The card currently charges a joining and renewal fee of ₹999 plus applicable taxes. The renewal fee is reversed when eligible annual spending reaches ₹2 lakh.
Its simplicity is the biggest advantage. Someone who buys from Amazon one month, Myntra the next, an airline website later and an independent online retailer after that does not need to continuously remember rotating partner lists.
However, the cashback is not unlimited. Online cashback is capped at ₹2,000 per statement cycle, while offline cashback is separately capped at ₹2,000, with aggregate card cashback capped at ₹4,000 per statement cycle. The 5% online rate therefore reaches its ₹2,000 monthly ceiling once eligible online transactions reach ₹40,000.
The exclusions are equally important. Categories such as utilities, insurance, fuel, rent, wallets, education, jewellery and railways may not earn cashback under the applicable terms.
Best suited for: Frequent online shoppers who pay their entire card bill every month.
2. Axis Bank Cashback Credit Card
Best for High Monthly Online Spending
Axis Bank’s dedicated Cashback Credit Card takes a different approach from SBI. Instead of offering one flat online rate, it uses a progressive cashback structure.
For eligible monthly online spending, the first ₹5,000 earns 2%, the portion above ₹5,000 and up to ₹40,000 earns 5%, and spending above ₹40,000 earns 7%. Total online cashback is capped at ₹4,000 per statement month. Offline and travel-related eligible purchases earn unlimited base cashback of 0.75%, while utility bill payments receive 0.5% cashback subject to a ₹100 cap.
This is where headline percentages can mislead. At ₹40,000 of eligible online spending, the effective cashback is not 7% of the whole amount because the slabs apply progressively.
The joining and annual fee is ₹1,000 plus GST, and the annual fee can be waived when anniversary-year spending reaches ₹4 lakh. This card becomes increasingly attractive for consumers whose monthly online expenditure is relatively high.
Best suited for: Consumers regularly spending more than ₹40,000 online and capable of maximising the higher slab.
3. HSBC Live+ Credit Card
Best for Groceries, Dining and Everyday Lifestyle Spending
The HSBC Live+ Credit Card is one of the most interesting lifestyle-cashback cards in India. HSBC advertises 10% accelerated cashback on eligible dining, food delivery, groceries, shopping and utility spending, subject to a combined cap of ₹1,200 per month. Most other eligible purchases earn 1.5% unlimited cashback.
That 1.5% base rate deserves attention because many competing cards fall back to only 1% on ordinary purchases.
The joining fee is ₹999 and the annual fee is also ₹999. Renewal is waived when annual expenditure exceeds ₹2 lakh. The card also includes travel and lifestyle benefits that can improve overall value for consumers who actually use them.
The main limitation is that the 10% number looks spectacular, but its ₹1,200 monthly cap means eligible accelerated expenditure of only ₹12,000 is required to exhaust that particular cashback pool. Beyond that, the 1.5% base rate becomes more important.
Best suited for: Households with regular grocery, dining, shopping and food-delivery expenditure.
4. Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card
Best Cashback Card for Swiggy Users
For consumers who regularly use Swiggy for food, Instamart groceries and dining, the Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card offers outstanding targeted value.
The card provides 10% cashback on eligible Swiggy-app transactions, including Food, Instamart, Dineout and Genie, subject to a ₹1,500 cashback cap per billing cycle. It also provides 5% cashback on eligible online spending across multiple applications and websites, separately capped at ₹1,500 per billing cycle, plus 1% cashback on other eligible categories.
An individual spending ₹15,000 per month across eligible Swiggy services can potentially earn the full ₹1,500 Swiggy cashback. Another ₹30,000 of qualifying online spending can theoretically use the full ₹1,500 online cashback bucket.
The joining and renewal fee is only ₹500 plus applicable taxes, and the renewal fee is waived when eligible annual expenditure reaches ₹2 lakh. The main weakness is ecosystem dependence: someone who rarely uses Swiggy or Instamart will find less value here than a regular user.
Best suited for: Swiggy, Instamart and online-shopping users.
5. Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card
Best Lifetime-Free Cashback Credit Card
The Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card remains exceptional because there is no joining fee and no annual fee.
Prime members earn 5% rewards on eligible Amazon.in purchases, while non-Prime customers earn 3%. Transactions at eligible Amazon Pay partner merchants can earn 2%, and other eligible purchases earn 1%. Rewards are generally converted into Amazon Pay balance after the billing cycle.
The lack of an annual fee dramatically improves the economics for moderate spenders. Someone spending ₹60,000 a year on eligible Amazon purchases as a Prime customer can theoretically generate ₹3,000 in rewards without any annual membership fee.
Amazon Pay rewards are not identical to unrestricted cash deposited into a bank account, but the balance is highly usable across Amazon and supported Amazon Pay transactions. Availability can also depend on ICICI Bank’s application and eligibility process.
Best suited for: Amazon Prime customers, moderate spenders and lifetime-free-card seekers.
6. Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card
Best for Flipkart, Myntra and Cleartrip
The Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card has become more differentiated than a simple Flipkart shopping card.
Current benefits include 7.5% cashback on Myntra, capped at ₹4,000 per statement quarter; 5% cashback on Flipkart and Cleartrip, each subject to a ₹4,000 statement-quarter cap per merchant; unlimited 4% cashback at designated preferred merchants; and 1% on other eligible categories.
Axis currently charges ₹500 as the joining fee and ₹500 annually from the second year, with the renewal fee waived when eligible annual spending exceeds ₹3.5 lakh.
The quarterly merchant-specific caps can be useful for occasional large purchases. However, the headline 7.5% rate applies to Myntra rather than all expenditure.
Best suited for: Flipkart and Myntra loyalists and consumers booking through Cleartrip.
7. Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card
Best for Airtel Customers and Household Bills
Airtel subscribers can extract disproportionate value from the Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card.
The card advertises 25% cashback on Airtel mobile, broadband, Wi-Fi and DTH payments made through the Airtel Thanks app. Utility bills such as electricity and gas paid through the app can receive 10% cashback. The card also offers 10% value back on selected partners such as Zomato, Blinkit and District Movies, subject to monthly caps, with eligible other transactions earning 1%.
The accelerated Airtel and utility cashback ceilings require careful reading because the applicable cap can be linked to base cashback earned in the same statement month. Therefore, actual returns may depend on the rest of the cardholder’s spending behaviour.
The joining and annual fee is ₹500, with renewal waived above ₹2 lakh of eligible annual expenditure. For an Airtel-heavy household that also uses the card for ordinary expenditure, it remains highly attractive.
Best suited for: Airtel broadband/mobile/DTH customers who also spend regularly on the card.
8. Axis Bank ACE Credit Card
Best for Google Pay Bills, Food Delivery and Urban Commutes
The Axis Bank ACE Credit Card remains a strong everyday-spending card. Its current structure offers 5% cashback on eligible utility bills, DTH and mobile recharges paid through Google Pay; 4% cashback on Swiggy, Zomato and Ola; and 1.5% cashback on other eligible expenditure.
This combination covers several recurring urban expenses: electricity, internet, phone recharge, food delivery and ride-hailing.
Axis currently charges ₹499 as joining fee and ₹499 from the second year; the renewal fee is waived when eligible annual expenditure exceeds ₹2 lakh. Lounge and other card benefits remain subject to the issuer’s current conditions.
ACE ranks below Airtel Axis largely because its accelerated rates are lower, but it is less dependent on a telecom ecosystem and can integrate easily into everyday spending for Google Pay users.
Best suited for: Consumers who pay household bills through Google Pay and use Swiggy, Zomato and Ola.
9. BOBCARD Cashback Credit Card
Best Low-Fee Alternative to SBI Cashback
BOBCARD’s dedicated Cashback Credit Card is one of the more interesting low-fee alternatives in the cashback market.
It provides 5% cashback on eligible domestic online spending, capped at ₹1,500 per month, and unlimited 1% cashback on other eligible transactions. Cashback is automatically posted to the card statement rather than requiring conversion into vouchers.
The product page has offered a ₹49 monthly fee model or a ₹499 joining-and-annual-fee structure. The accelerated 5% online cashback requires the cardholder to satisfy the applicable transaction conditions, including minimum transaction-count rules, while excluded categories may not earn rewards.
Because the 5% online cashback is capped at ₹1,500, about ₹30,000 of qualifying online expenditure is enough to exhaust the accelerated monthly earning.
Best suited for: Moderate online spenders seeking a lower-fee 5% online cashback card.
10. HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card
Best Established Cashback Card With Milestone Benefits
HDFC Bank Millennia completes the top ten because it blends cashback with quarterly milestone rewards.
The card offers 5% cashback on selected popular brands such as Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Tata CLiQ, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, BookMyShow, Sony LIV and Cult.fit. Other eligible expenditure receives 1% cashback.
Millennia generates cashback in the form of Reward Points. One Reward Point equals ₹1 when redeemed against statement balance, subject to the prevailing redemption conditions and monthly limits.
The card also offers a quarterly milestone benefit for qualifying expenditure. The joining and renewal fee is ₹1,000 plus applicable taxes, but the renewal fee is waived at annual expenditure exceeding ₹1 lakh, which is one of the easier waiver thresholds in this ranking.
Its weakness is that the 5% merchant list is narrower than a general online cashback proposition such as SBI Cashback.
Best suited for: HDFC customers concentrating expenditure at major online brands.
Axis Cashback Example: ₹40,000 Eligible Online Spend
| Online Spend Portion | Cashback Rate | Cashback |
| First ₹5,000 | 2% | ₹100 |
| Next ₹35,000 | 5% | ₹1,750 |
| Total on ₹40,000 | Effective 4.625% | ₹1,850 |
Cashback Caps Matter More Than Headline Percentages
| Card | Headline Rate | Important Limitation |
| SBI Cashback | 5% online | ₹2,000 online cashback/statement cycle |
| Axis Cashback | Up to 7% online | Tiered rates; ₹4,000 online cap/month |
| HSBC Live+ | 10% selected categories | ₹1,200 combined accelerated cap/month |
| Swiggy HDFC | 10% Swiggy | ₹1,500 Swiggy cap + separate eligible-online cap |
| Amazon Pay ICICI | 5% Prime Amazon | Unlimited rewards; Amazon-focused |
| Flipkart Axis | 7.5% Myntra | Quarterly merchant-specific caps |
| Airtel Axis | 25% Airtel | Accelerated cap linked to current terms/base cashback |
| Axis ACE | 5% selected bill payments | Category and transaction conditions apply |
| BOBCARD Cashback | 5% online | ₹1,500/month + transaction-count conditions |
| HDFC Millennia | 5% selected brands | Merchant-specific earning and RP redemption conditions |
Best Cashback Card by Spending Pattern
| Spending Profile | Strongest Cards to Compare First |
| Heavy general online shopping | SBI Cashback / Axis Cashback |
| ₹40,000+ monthly online expenditure | Axis Cashback / SBI Cashback |
| Grocery + dining + shopping | HSBC Live+ |
| Swiggy + Instamart | Swiggy HDFC |
| Amazon Prime shopper | Amazon Pay ICICI |
| Flipkart + Myntra shopper | Flipkart Axis |
| Airtel mobile/broadband household | Airtel Axis |
| Utility bills through Google Pay | Axis ACE |

| HDFC customer using major online brands | HDFC Millennia |
How Much Can a Cashback Card Really Save?
Suppose a household spends ₹50,000 per month on a credit card, or ₹6 lakh annually. If the effective cashback rate across eligible spending is 2%, annual gross cashback would be approximately ₹12,000. At a 3% effective rate, gross cashback becomes ₹18,000. At 5%, theoretical cashback rises to ₹30,000.
However, very few cards will actually return 5% on the entire ₹6 lakh because accelerated rates are usually restricted by categories or caps. A better metric is effective cashback rate: total cashback actually received divided by total card expenditure, multiplied by 100.
A card advertising 10% cashback may therefore have an effective annual return of only 2% if most expenditure occurs outside its accelerated categories.
Watch the Exclusions
Cashback cards increasingly exclude certain merchant-category codes. Common exclusions across the market include rent, wallet loading, fuel, government transactions, education, jewellery, insurance and cash withdrawals, although the exact list differs by card.
An important 2026 change applies to Axis Bank cards from 28 August 2026: Axis Bank has announced changes under which gift-card transactions remain ineligible for rewards/cashback and certain road-fee/toll-related transactions also become ineligible, while some foreign-currency-related charges are revised. Cardholders should verify the latest terms before relying on a particular earning category.
The Annual-Fee Trap
A ₹1,000 annual fee is not automatically expensive. If a card produces ₹12,000 of cashback from spending you would have made anyway, the fee is easily justified. Conversely, even a ₹500 card is poor value if it encourages unnecessary expenditure merely to earn cashback.
Annual-fee waivers should therefore be treated as a bonus, not as a spending target. Never buy something unnecessary merely because another ₹10,000 of spending will qualify your card for a ₹500 fee waiver.
The Biggest Credit-Card Mistake: Carrying a Balance
Cashback becomes economically meaningless when a cardholder starts paying high revolving interest. Finance charges on unpaid balances can be many times larger than the cashback generated from ordinary expenditure.
A consumer earning ₹1,500 cashback but paying several thousand rupees in interest has not saved money. A cashback card should therefore function primarily as a payment instrument, not as a long-term borrowing facility.
Which Cashback Card Is Best Overall in 2026?
For a consumer who wants one relatively simple card for general online shopping, CASHBACK SBI Card remains the first research choice because 5% applies broadly to eligible online transactions rather than only a short list of merchants.
For someone with much higher monthly online spending, Axis Bank Cashback Credit Card can become more attractive because expenditure above ₹40,000 enters its higher marginal cashback slab and online cashback can reach ₹4,000 per month.
For lifestyle spending, HSBC Live+ is particularly competitive because 10% accelerated cashback covers several everyday categories while most remaining eligible spending earns 1.5%. For customers who refuse to pay an annual membership fee, Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card stands out because it currently has no joining or annual fee while providing up to 5% rewards on eligible Amazon purchases.
For ecosystem-specific spending, Swiggy HDFC, Flipkart Axis and Airtel Axis can outperform general cards when spending closely matches their preferred categories.

Final Thoughts
The Indian cashback-credit-card market in 2026 is highly competitive, but it is also increasingly complicated. The strongest card is not necessarily the one displaying “10%” or “25%” in the largest font. A useful cashback card has to match your actual expenditure.
Someone spending ₹30,000 every month across random online websites may benefit more from SBI Cashback than from a 10% grocery card. An Amazon Prime customer could obtain excellent value from Amazon Pay ICICI without paying any annual membership fee. A household with Airtel broadband, multiple Airtel mobile connections and regular electricity bills may save much more with Airtel Axis. A heavy Swiggy and Instamart user can potentially recover the Swiggy HDFC annual fee many times over.
For high online expenditure, Axis Cashback’s progressive system can become particularly attractive. For groceries, restaurants and lifestyle consumption, HSBC Live+ offers one of the most balanced combinations of accelerated and base cashback.
The correct strategy is therefore not to collect every cashback card available. Instead, examine the previous three to six months of your own spending. Identify where most money goes. Then choose one or two cards whose highest earning categories overlap with expenditure you already make.
Most importantly, pay the total amount due every month. A disciplined user can convert cashback into genuine savings. An undisciplined borrower can lose several years of cashback to interest in a matter of months. Used correctly, a cashback credit card is not a reason to spend more; it is simply a mechanism for paying slightly less for expenditure that would have occurred anyway.
